Announcements

  • Important Announcements Regarding Outdoor HMB Pickleball Courts Coming Soon! Stay Tuned!
  • Dear PB members, the MOU between the city of HMB (rec dept.) and BGCC and/or CUSD expires end of Nov. and will be re-negotiated for the following year. There will be no rec PB at Cunha in December. If you play, or want to play PB at Cunha on Sundays in the future, if you are playing at Ted Adcock Center, tell Eddie how much you want him to pick Sunday PB open to the public. We have been getting about 20 people showing up to play each Sunday. It is important for Eddie to know how much the courts are being used and how important it is to have outdoor courts to play on.
  • ALL 3 CUNHA PB COURTS NOW OPEN! please see below You are all awesome! Beginning December 1, all 3 Cunha PB courts will be open to the public during non-school hours unless BCGG or CUSD has a special event, camp, etc. This means you can play after school, on weekends, on holidays, and during the summer, ANYTIME! In addition, we are upgrading the courts. The initial steps will include the installation of paddle racks and signs on each court and a deep cleaning using special equipment from DH Distribution. The total cost of this first phase will run about $3,500. These improvements should be completed this year. Next year, forecast for April, the second phase will include new nets and posts and the subdivision of court 1 into 4 newly refinished, newly painted, top grade courts similar to those at The Ritz. We have an immediate need for $3,500 to fund phase 1. I have set up a special account at Discover Bank linked to Paypal to receive donations. I am asking every PB player that is able to donate a minimum of $50 (anything less makes the accounting to burdensome) and suggested amount $100. Let's build a warchest to accomplish phase 1 and get started on phase 2. I am also inviting anyone interested in being part of the accounting team to contact me. Every donation and every expense will be tracked and transparent. To donate, please use the link below. Let's make this a PB destination to be proud of! Rick PB Donate

The lastest update from Rick Southern re Cunha courts - October 24, 2025:

    "Dear Coastside PB Players:

"After BGCC and CUSD agreed to open court 1 (westerly Cunha Ct.) for play during non-school hours, the Rec. Dept. decided not to allow access to courts 2 and 3 during the normal 12-4 Sunday open court which they hosted. There rationale was one court free, two paid, confusion. One step forward, getting court 1 open, 2 steps back, closing 2 and 3 access on Sunday.

After discussion with the city, and, thank you Matt Chidester and Eddie Behle for reversing this decision, courts 2 and 3 will be open Sunday 12-4 FREE! through November, at which time their MOU with BGCC runs out. So through November, please utilize courts 2 and 3 Sundays 12-4 and Court 1 any weekend day and weekdays‚ after school."

    Dear PB Friends:
As promised, here is an update on our efforts to get the Cunha PB courts open to the public. Good News!Today David Houston and I met with representatives from CUSD and The Boys and Girls Club. This has been the culmination of many meetings trying to move the ball forward. Jennifer Marsh, CBO for CUSD, born and raised in HMB and a long-time advocate to serve the community, announced the locks would be removed from the west facing court, court 1, after school and on weekends beginning Friday. This is a work in progress so be grateful for one court for now. The longer term plan is to renovate the other two courts and turn court 1 into 4 new courts, beautifully re-surfaced. Ultimately, there will be 6 courts to play on. This will work because we will be good partners with BGCC and CUSD, keeping the courts clean, sharing the space and ensuring this is a win for everyone.
There will be some initial hiccups until the janitors are trained when to open and when to lock the courts etc. So have patience while we work out the kinks. Our agreement for now is the court will be open after school, on weekends and during the summer. I am going to see if we can add to our website a place where members can sign up to volunteer to inspect the court at the end of a Saturday and Sunday. The idea is to leave the court clean and in good shape for the next day. There are enough of us such that if we all volunteered for one day out of the year we could provide this service. Finally, as it becomes more clear what the costs will be for ongoing maintenance and upgrades, we will pass the hat for donations directly to BGCC. Let's celebrate in play this weekend and express our gratitude to CUSD and BGCC!

As Always, please encourage more friends to sign up on coastsidepickleball.org so we grow our wonderful PB community and maximize our involvement and gratitude.
